Delhi, India – (December 22, 2025) – GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV) announced that its Electrification Systems business has secured a major contract from Adani Energy Solutions Ltd. to supply high-voltage direct current (HVDC) technology for the Khavda–South Olpad renewable transmission corridor, with a total capacity of 2.5 gigawatts (GW).
Enabling large-scale renewable energy transfer
The Khavda–South Olpad corridor is a key element of India’s renewable energy expansion strategy. Khavda, located in Gujarat’s Kutch region, is being developed as one of the largest renewable energy hubs globally, while South Olpad serves as a major node for integrating power into the national grid. The transmission link will allow large volumes of renewable electricity generated in western India to be efficiently delivered across the country.
GE Vernova’s scope
GE Vernova will provide advanced HVDC technology designed for high-capacity and reliable operation. The project includes a ±500 kV, 2,500 MW (2 × 1,250 MW) voltage sourced converter (VSC)-based bipolar HVDC system connecting the two locations.
HVDC technology enables long-distance electricity transmission with lower losses and improved controllability compared to conventional AC systems, making it particularly suitable for integrating large-scale renewable energy sources.
The contract scope covers full system design, supply of key converter station equipment, and responsibility for erection, testing, and commissioning, excluding civil works. The solution will utilize GE Vernova’s eLumina™ control platform, ensuring stable, secure, and efficient grid operation.
Execution will be largely handled by the company’s teams in India, leveraging local engineering expertise and manufacturing capabilities. The project will be delivered in phases, with completion targeted by 2030.

With a total capacity of 2,500 MW, this project is the highest-rated VSC-based HVDC system planned in India so far. Projects of this scale demonstrate the increasing importance of advanced HVDC technologies in supporting large-scale renewable integration and strengthening transmission networks in rapidly growing energy markets.
The deployment of such high-capacity systems also reflects the maturity of next-generation HVDC solutions and their ability to meet complex grid requirements both in India and globally.

VSC-based HVDC systems play a critical role in renewable-heavy grids by providing fast frequency response, improving system stability, and enabling precise control of power flows. These capabilities help manage variability, reduce congestion, and maintain reliable grid performance as renewable penetration increases.
