DELHI, India (May 1, 2025) – GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE: GEV) announced that it has been selected by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) to provide 765 kV class transformers and shunt reactors for key transmission projects. These assets will play a critical role in enabling large-scale renewable energy evacuation under India’s Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) framework.
The order has been awarded through GE Vernova T&D India Limited, the company’s publicly listed electrification business in the country.
Project Scope and Execution
Under the agreement, GE Vernova will be responsible for the full project lifecycle, including equipment supply, installation, testing, and commissioning. Manufacturing will take place at the company’s transformer facility in Vadodara, India. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2026, with project completion expected by the end of 2027.
Ruchir Mayank, Commercial Leader for GE Vernova’s Power Transmission business in India, described the contract as one of the largest order intakes for the company’s Electrification segment in the region. He emphasized that the project marks an important milestone for the Vadodara facility and reflects GE Vernova’s role in advancing India’s grid modernization and renewable energy ambitions.
Sandeep Zanzaria, Managing Director and CEO of GE Vernova T&D India Limited, highlighted the strategic importance of these projects, noting that they demonstrate the company’s contribution to strengthening India’s transmission infrastructure and supporting global decarbonization objectives. He also underscored the role of advanced high-voltage technologies in building a more resilient and reliable power system.
Supporting Renewable Energy Expansion
POWERGRID, India’s largest transmission utility, plays a central role in integrating renewable energy into the national grid. The newly awarded contracts—executed under a bulk procurement strategy—will support high-capacity renewable energy corridors across several key states, including Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.
By enabling efficient transmission of renewable power from generation sites to demand centers, the project contributes to improved energy security and reduced dependence on fossil fuels.
Manufacturing Expertise in Vadodara
GE Vernova’s Vadodara facility has been manufacturing and testing 765 kV class transformers and shunt reactors since 2009. To date, the site has delivered more than 700 units across India, supporting the stability and performance of the country’s power network.
This latest project further reinforces GE Vernova’s long-term commitment to accelerating the energy transition in emerging markets through advanced grid technologies.
