  • GE Vernova tapped to provide Integrated Battery Energy Storage (BESS) system for stages 1 and 2 of Quinbrook’s Supernode Storage Project in Queensland
  • In one of Australia’s largest energy storage projects, the Supernode initiative in Queensland is set to optimize the storage of renewable energy from wind and solar sources.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (September 16, 2024) – GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE: GEV) has been awarded a contract by Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners (Quinbrook) to act as the integration provider for the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in the second phase of the Supernode project. This phase includes a 250 MW/1,000 MWh storage system, located in Queensland, Australia.

The Supernode project, spearheaded by Quinbrook, aims to establish a large-scale BESS and data center facility in Queensland. Once fully realized, the site will host a 750 MW BESS with a 2–4 hour capacity, positioning it as one of the most significant battery storage systems in the Australian energy market. The 250 MW/1,000 MWh storage system currently under development represents the second phase of the three-stage Supernode project. Earlier this year, GE Vernova also secured the contract for Stage 1, which involves integrating a 250 MW/500 MWh BESS that is now in progress.

“We are confident that GE Vernova’s comprehensive product offerings, combined with our technical expertise and project execution abilities, are perfectly aligned with the demands of the Supernode project,” said Ed Torres, Head of GE Vernova’s Solar & Storage Solutions division. “This partnership showcases the depth of our value proposition and our capabilities in the energy storage space. We look forward to continuing our role as a trusted partner in delivering large-scale BESS projects in this region and globally. Our sincere thanks to Quinbrook for their continued trust in GE Vernova as a key technology provider for this transformative project.”

GE Vernova’s role encompasses the supply and commissioning of key components, including power conditioning systems, SCADA systems for power plant control, and harmonic filtering. Additionally, they are tasked with engineering integration and providing GPS connection support.

Quinbrook, an investment firm specializing in energy transition infrastructure, focuses on renewable energy, storage solutions, and grid advancements. Their portfolio spans projects in the U.S., UK, and Australia.
