JAKARTA, INDONESIA (August 30, 2024) – GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE: GEV) has announced the commercial operation of PLN Indonesia Power’s Tambak Lorok Combined Cycle Power Plant Block 3 (“Tambak Lorok”) in Tanjung Mas, Central Java. This milestone comes after the recent commissioning of GE Vernova’s 100th HA gas turbine worldwide. As Indonesia’s energy demands continue to rise, driven by economic and population growth, the Tambak Lorok plant will play a critical role in meeting the country’s electricity needs, potentially powering up to 5 million homes.
In alignment with Indonesia’s climate goals, which include phasing out coal-fired power plants by 2040 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2060, Tambak Lorok represents a significant step towards a cleaner energy future. The plant adds substantial capacity to Indonesia’s electricity grid, contributing to greater stability as the country transitions away from coal.

Tambak Lorok is powered by GE Vernova’s state-of-the-art equipment, including a 9HA.02 gas turbine, STF-D650 steam turbine, and a Once Through HRSG. Beyond delivering the core equipment in a turnkey combined cycle configuration, GE Vernova is also providing a comprehensive solution that includes a 15-year service agreement. This agreement covers all aspects of the plant’s lifecycle, from training and maintenance to enhancing operational performance and reliability. The training component will help develop the skills of PLN IP’s operations team, facilitating knowledge transfer and boosting capability.

With GE Vernova’s H-class technology, the Tambak Lorok plant produces significantly lower emissions—up to 60% less than other plants of a similar size powered by diesel, coal, or other fossil fuels. Additionally, GE Vernova’s H-Class gas turbines are capable of burning up to 50% hydrogen by volume when mixed with natural gas, with the potential to achieve 100% hydrogen capability in the future, further supporting the decarbonization of gas power.
