  • Ensures uninterrupted operation of mission-critical AI and industrial systems by delivering consistent, premium-quality power—even during grid disturbances—while also safeguarding gas turbines and electrical networks from abrupt load swings.
  • Shifts power protection to the medium-voltage level, enabling a single integrated system to secure significantly larger portions of an AI data center. This results in a more streamlined, cost-effective infrastructure design.
  • Introduces a new component, built on field-proven technologies, to GE Vernova’s comprehensive data center portfolio, enhancing its ability to deliver reliable power all the way to the rack within the facility.

PARIS, France, (24 August 2026) – GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE: GEV) today unveiled its new medium-voltage uninterruptible power supply (MV-UPS), engineered to provide continuous, high-stability power for data centers, AI manufacturing facilities, and other power-intensive operations.

Global electricity demand is rising rapidly, with AI-driven data centers among the fastest-growing consumers. For these facilities, maintaining operational continuity is paramount—since even momentary power fluctuations can disrupt essential computing tasks. Additionally, their dynamic power consumption patterns place added stress on the grid or on-site generation systems, complicating integration and grid stability.

Currently, UPS systems are typically deployed at low voltage, after power has been stepped down for end use. This limits protection to smaller zones within a facility and allows sudden load changes to propagate back to the power source.

GE Vernova’s MV-UPS shifts protection upstream to the medium-voltage level, acting as a unified stability buffer between the facility and its power source. This enables a single, coordinated system to shield a much larger portion of the facility while minimizing disruptive feedback to the grid or on-site generators.

“Continuous, dependable power is essential for every high-consumption industry, and AI data centers are pushing the boundaries of scale and reliability,” stated Philippe Piron, CEO of GE Vernova’s Electrification business. “This demands a fundamental shift in how we manage and protect power within these facilities. Our MV-UPS delivers a true end-to-end medium-voltage power stability solution for energy-intensive sectors, including data centers. By applying GE Vernova’s proven power conversion and energy storage technologies in a novel configuration, we offer customers unmatched reliability, along with improved cost and space efficiency to meet the demands of today’s rapidly scaling workloads.”

How the MV-UPS operates

The system is deployed within the facility’s medium-voltage network, positioned between the power source and critical loads. It integrates advanced power conversion, intelligent controls, and on-board energy storage to maintain consistent voltage and frequency for vital operations, while absorbing sudden demand spikes before they impact the grid or on-site generation.

By delivering protection at medium voltage, a single unified system can support far larger critical loads compared to conventional low-voltage UPS setups. The solution also aids in meeting power quality standards and grid interconnection requirements, enables more flexible use of energy storage, and reduces complexity in downstream electrical systems—helping speed up project deployment.

GE Vernova anticipates initial shipments of the MV-UPS in mid-2027, with the first installation expected to be energized by late 2027.

Enhancing GE Vernova’s power-to-rack ecosystem

The MV-UPS introduces a new layer of electrical stability to GE Vernova’s full-spectrum data center solutions, reinforcing its power-to-rack capabilities within the facility. This integrated approach encompasses all the electrical infrastructure needed to generate, connect, manage, and distribute power—from initial generation and grid interconnection to the systems powering computing equipment inside the facility.

GE Vernova’s existing data center portfolio includes gas turbines for on-site power generation; substations, high- and medium-voltage transformers, switchgear, and gas-insulated switchgear for grid connectivity; energy management systems to balance supply with fluctuating demand; and advanced power conversion technologies for efficient internal power delivery.

The MV-UPS extends this suite by adding medium-voltage power protection and grid-forming stability. GE Vernova is also advancing solid-state transformer technology to enable smaller, more efficient power conversion closer to the computing rack. Together, these innovations strengthen GE Vernova’s comprehensive power-to-rack strategy, addressing the escalating demands for scale, reliability, and electrical efficiency in modern AI data centers.
