Munich, Germany (May 7, 2025) – GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE: GEV) announced the launch of two major advancements within its FLEXINVERTER portfolio:
A new 1.5kV FLEXINVERTER designed for utility-scale BESS applications, incorporating advanced silicon carbide (SiC) technology.
The expansion of its 2kV FLEXINVERTER for photovoltaic (PV) systems into International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) markets, extending beyond its initial deployment in the United States.
These updates mark a strategic step toward improving energy efficiency, reducing total project costs, and supporting the global transition to cleaner energy systems.
IEC markets include regions that adhere to International Electrotechnical Commission standards, covering most of Europe, large parts of Asia and Africa, and other international markets outside North America.
Next-Generation Efficiency Gains
Built on the established FLEXINVERTER architecture, the new 1.5kV SiC-based solution delivers enhanced electrical performance, greater power density, and a more compact system footprint. By leveraging silicon carbide technology, the inverter can operate at higher voltages and temperatures, significantly reducing energy losses, cooling requirements, and overall system size. These improvements contribute to lower levelized cost of storage (LCoS) and reduced engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) expenses.
In parallel, the expanded 2kV FLEXINVERTER solution for solar applications provides notable balance of system (BOS) cost reductions. Developers benefit from smaller cable requirements, minimized transmission losses, and improved overall system efficiency, making large-scale PV installations more cost-effective.
Global Production and Scaling Strategy
The FLEXINVERTER platform was engineered at GE Vernova’s Berlin research center and will be manufactured across its global network, including facilities in Chennai, India, and Pittsburgh, United States. Earlier this year, the company announced an expansion of its Pittsburgh operations, adding a dedicated production line for FLEXINVERTER systems and creating more than 270 new jobs. The Chennai site is also expected to scale up production to meet increasing global demand.

Building on the success of the 2kV solar inverter, the new BESS-focused solution is expected to further enhance project economics, improve operational efficiency, and support more sustainable energy infrastructure. Initial deliveries are anticipated in the first half of 2026.
