  • GE Vernova’s Grid Solutions business has introduced its latest GRiDEA portfolio, designed to accelerate the decarbonization of electricity transmission systems.
  • The innovative portfolio includes advanced SF6-free technology, significantly reducing CO2-equivalent emissions compared to conventional SF6-based switchgear solutions.
  • In addition to emission reductions, GRiDEA is focused on optimizing material usage, extending equipment lifespans, and enhancing grid efficiency.

Paris, France (Aug 26, 2024) – GE Vernova (NYSE) today launched the GRiDEA portfolio under its Grid Solutions division at CIGRE in Paris, the world’s leading event for power systems. GRiDEA represents a comprehensive range of products and solutions aimed at decarbonizing the electrical grid and driving the global transition to more sustainable energy practices. GE Vernova is showcasing its advanced technologies in electrification at the event.

A Decarbonization Breakthrough

GRiDEA empowers grid operators by offering tools to reduce emissions from SF6 and lower reliance on raw materials, contributing significantly to global decarbonization goals.

The core of the GRiDEA offering lies in high-voltage, SF6-free equipment, such as g3 technology, which delivers a 99% reduction in CO2 equivalent emissions compared to traditional SF6 gear. The portfolio includes a broad range of SF6-free switchgear that operates at voltages up to 420 kV.

Additionally, GRiDEA has been expanded with SF6-free gas technology for live tank circuit breakers, allowing reliable operation even in extreme cold environments.

Sustainability Commitment

GE Vernova is dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of its products throughout their lifecycle. The GRiDEA portfolio incorporates several sustainability features:

  • Use of recycled materials such as copper, aluminum, and oil, reducing the need for raw materials and replacing copper wiring with fiber optics.
  • Extended equipment lifespan through advanced monitoring technologies, control devices, and modernization services that support long-term sustainability.
  • Optimized grid infrastructure with more compact, lightweight, and efficient product designs.

Philippe Piron, CEO of GE Vernova’s Electrification Systems business, underscored the portfolio’s importance: “GRiDEA is more than just a collection of products; it’s a testament to our dedication to driving the energy transition. We’re equipping grid operators with solutions that cut emissions while boosting efficiency, enabling a future where electrification aligns with sustainability.”

Eric Chaussin, GE Vernova’s Power Transmission leader, added: “As the grid evolves globally, it’s critical to provide customers with technologies that are both cutting-edge and adaptable. GRiDEA is designed to address today’s needs while preparing for tomorrow’s challenges. Our goal is to help customers build a more resilient, low-carbon grid.”

Trusted Innovation for a Sustainable Electric Future

As the electrical grid undergoes a transformative shift to accommodate growing electrification needs and carbon reduction goals, GE Vernova is at the forefront. With the GRiDEA portfolio, GE Vernova offers grid operators a new standard for sustainable infrastructure and innovation. The portfolio not only addresses immediate needs but also anticipates the future demands of the industry and the environment.

The unveiling of GRiDEA at CIGRE marks a significant step forward in setting new benchmarks for grid transmission technology, digitalization, and sustainability. GE Vernova’s commitment to innovation and carbon reduction is evident in this portfolio, which provides the tools necessary for grid operators to contribute to a cleaner energy future.
