CHEVY CHASE, Maryland and WILMINGTON, North Carolina (August 13, 2026) – Blue Energy, a fully integrated platform specializing in scalable, prefabricated nuclear power solutions, has entered into a new agreement with GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH), marking the next major milestone in their joint effort to develop a 2.5 GW hybrid gas-and-nuclear energy facility in Texas.
The collaboration will now focus on advancing engineering designs, regulatory licensing, and comprehensive safety evaluations for the project located in Victoria, Texas. The plant is set to integrate GE Vernova’s 7HA.02 gas turbines with GVH’s BWRX-300 small modular reactors (SMRs), pending final investment approval scheduled for 2027. This initiative underscores Blue Energy’s strategic vision of combining natural gas and nuclear power to support rising U.S. electricity needs fueled by advancements in artificial intelligence and high-tech manufacturing sectors.
Central to Blue Energy’s delivery model is its end-to-end approach—known as the “Blue Way”—which leverages the standardized, modular architecture of the BWRX-300 reactor. By utilizing off-site fabrication, streamlined logistics, and super-module assembly techniques, the company enhances predictability in scheduling, cost control, and overall project execution.

Under Blue Energy’s phased deployment strategy, two GE Vernova gas turbines will initially supply about 1 gigawatt of power to a nearby data center by 2030. Starting in 2032, up to five BWRX-300 SMRs from GE Vernova Hitachi will be brought online, adding an additional 1.5 gigawatts of carbon-free baseload generation.

The first BWRX-300 reactor is already under construction at Ontario Power Generation’s Darlington site in Canada, with completion anticipated before 2030. Once operational, it will become the first grid-connected small modular reactor in the Western Hemisphere.
