ATLANTA, GA (March 28, 2025) – GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE: GEV) has secured an order from Springfield City Utilities (CU) to supply three LM6000VELOX* aeroderivative gas turbine packages. These units will expand generation capacity at CU’s McCartney Generating Station, a 100 MW facility in Greene County, Missouri.

Rising electricity demand, aging infrastructure, and extreme weather conditions have increased CU’s Planning Reserve Margin (PRM) requirements. PRM represents the excess generation capacity needed to maintain reliability during peak periods or outages. By 2026, CU must sustain a 36% PRM in winter, a significant jump from the current 15%. This necessitates additional generation capacity to safeguard against unforeseen power disruptions.

Boosting Grid Stability with High-Efficiency Technology

GE Vernova’s aeroderivative turbines will provide an extra 150 MW of flexible, reliable power, reinforcing grid stability. These units are set to become CU’s most efficient generators, capable of running on both natural gas and diesel as a backup fuel. The facility is expected to commence operations in 2027.

This project aligns with our broader strategy of delivering affordable, reliable, and innovative energy solutions.”

Advanced Aeroderivative Solutions for Rapid Deployment

GE Vernova’s LM6000VELOX packages incorporate well-established LM6000* aeroderivative technology, renowned for its fast start-up—reaching full power in as little as five minutes—and its ability to complement intermittent renewable energy sources. The LM6000VELOX design streamlines installation and commissioning by up to 40%, cutting approximately 4,000 labor hours.

GE Vernova’s LM6000 gas turbines are part of a global fleet of nearly 1,200 units in operation across approximately 60 countries. In a Singular Annular Combustor (SAC) configuration, these turbines can run on up to 100% hydrogen by volume, contributing to a reduction in CO₂ emissions from gas-powered electricity generation.
