BERLIN, Germany, (16 July 2026): GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE: GEV) has been selected by Stromnetz Berlin GmbH to engineer, supply, and install two high-voltage substations in Wittenau and Neukölln. These installations will serve as critical junctions within Berlin’s electricity grid, distributing power to multiple local substations that energize homes, commercial facilities, and public services throughout the capital.
The 110 kV gas-insulated substations will utilize GE Vernova’s SF₆-free g³ insulation technology, replacing sulfur hexafluoride (SF₆), a powerful greenhouse gas commonly used in high-voltage electrical systems for insulation and arc suppression. The g³ alternative delivers equivalent performance and space efficiency while cutting the global warming potential of the insulating medium by approximately 99% compared to traditional SF₆-based solutions.

The Wittenau project is scheduled to run from June 2026 to March 2031, while the Neukölln installation will extend from June 2026 to January 2032. The contract was recorded in April 2026. Specific financial terms remain undisclosed.
