GE Vernova’s Grid Solutions, in collaboration with Polimex Mostostal, has secured a vital contract for the Baltica 2 Offshore Wind Farm in Poland. This endeavor involves constructing a 275/400 kV high voltage substation, inclusive of STATCOMs and onshore export lines, to efficiently integrate power into Poland’s grid.

The Baltica Offshore Wind Farm, a joint venture by Ørsted and PGE, is set to be the largest in the Polish Baltic Sea, targeting to supply electricity to nearly four million Polish households. This project marks a crucial advancement in Poland’s energy transition, enhancing energy security and significantly lowering carbon emissions.

Paris, France: January 25, 2024 – GE Vernova’s Grid Solutions division (NYSE: GE) has announced, in partnership with Polimex Mostostal (PXM), the receipt of a contract to establish the onshore infrastructure for the Baltica 2 Offshore Wind Farm. This infrastructure includes a 275/400 kV high voltage substation and onshore export lines to channel power into Poland’s electrical system.

GE Vernova, through its Polish subsidiary GE Power Sp. z.o.o., will lead the consortium, providing crucial technologies like Gas Insulated Switchgear, Transformers, and Static Synchronous Compensators (STATCOMs). PXM will manage the civil engineering, equipment installation, and the laying of onshore export lines necessary for the substation.

The 2.5 GW Baltica Offshore Wind Farm, developed by Ørsted and PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna, aims to be one of the largest globally, poised to deliver clean energy to nearly four million households in Poland, significantly cutting down CO2 emissions.

Baltica 2, spanning approximately 190 km² in the Polish Baltic Sea, is expected to be operational by 2027, playing a key role in Poland’s green energy transition and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

High voltage onshore substations are critical for transforming electricity generated from wind to higher voltages, suitable for long-distance transmission. GE Vernova’s expertise in high voltage substations ensures the efficient and reliable transformation and transmission of this power.
