GridBeats™ APS (Automation and Protection System) is the latest addition to GE Vernova’s GridBeats™ portfolio of software-defined automation solutions. It is designed to help utilities modernize substations, minimize equipment requirements, and maintain reliable power delivery as grid needs evolve.
Modernizing substation design and operations
Developed to address challenges such as aging infrastructure, capacity growth, operational complexity, and cybersecurity risks, GridBeats™ APS reimagines traditional substation architecture. The system operates as a unified platform that supports all protection and control applications within a substation. By leveraging GE Vernova’s proprietary hardware abstraction technology, it significantly reduces the amount of physical equipment required, as well as the number of spare units operators need to maintain.
With this approach, utilities can replace what previously required hundreds of communication and cybersecurity components with as few as ten, without compromising performance or protection levels.
