GE Vernova and YTL PowerSeraya have initiated a feasibility study focused on reducing carbon emissions from a planned H-Class combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant on Jurong Island.
The study, supported by the Energy Market Authority (EMA), will evaluate the potential to capture at least 90% of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions using post-combustion carbon capture technology integrated with GE Vernova’s 9HA.01 gas turbine. This represents the first assessment of its kind in Singapore for H-class CCGT facilities.
Scope and Technical Approach
The initiative follows EMA’s 2024 grant program aimed at accelerating carbon capture and storage (CCS) solutions within Singapore’s power sector. Out of multiple proposals, five projects were selected in July 2025, including YTL PowerSeraya’s study, which received co-funding.
The core objective is to retrofit the planned 600 MW plant with advanced systems capable of capturing the majority of its emissions. GE Vernova will act as the system integrator, focusing on seamless coordination between the power generation unit and the carbon capture facility.

According to YTL PowerSeraya leadership, participation in the study reflects a broader commitment to achieving net-zero emissions and advancing sustainable energy production in Singapore. The project is expected to play a key role in evaluating how existing and future gas-fired power plants can be adapted to meet stricter environmental targets.
From GE Vernova’s perspective, the initiative demonstrates the potential of integrated carbon capture solutions to minimize the operational and economic impact typically associated with emissions reduction technologies. The company will oversee full-scale system integration as part of the study.
