  • Project advances Türkiye’s energy transformation with cutting-edge, high-efficiency power generation technology
  • Facility utilizes GE Vernova’s 9HA.02 gas turbine, the first H-class turbine deployed in Türkiye
  • ENKA Kırklareli Natural Gas Combined Cycle Power Plant to receive ongoing maintenance support from GE Vernova

Kırklareli, Türkiye – (May 12, 2026) ENKA and GE Vernova Inc (NYSE: GEV) have officially commenced commercial operations at the 852 megawatt (MW) Kırklareli power plant, located in northwestern Türkiye near the Bulgarian border. This milestone marks the debut of the nation’s first power facility powered by HA-class technology, underscoring a major leap forward in modernizing Türkiye’s electricity infrastructure.

Under a long-term service agreement, GE Vernova will deliver comprehensive maintenance solutions to enhance operational transparency, system reliability, and plant availability. The launch event was attended by key government leaders, including H.E. Alparslan Bayraktar, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Türkiye, alongside executives from both ENKA and GE Vernova.

“The successful commissioning of the Kırklareli plant is a defining achievement for ENKA, reinforcing our role as an investor, EPC contractor, and operator of one of Türkiye’s most advanced combined cycle power stations,” said Mr. Mehmet Tara, Chairman of the Board and President of ENKA. “This project delivers highly efficient, flexible electricity to the national grid, showcasing ENKA’s nearly seven decades of engineering excellence, our full in-house expertise—from design through commissioning—and our enduring commitment to meeting Türkiye’s expanding energy demands with reliable, high-performance generation solutions.”

The Kırklareli plant’s commercial launch aligns with Türkiye’s broader strategy to upgrade its power network by adopting a more efficient, resilient, and diversified energy portfolio. As highlighted in the IEA’s latest outlook, natural gas has played a growing role in Türkiye’s electricity supply over the past 20 years, now accounting for over 25% of total generation.

For this project, GE Vernova provided the complete combined-cycle power train, including the 9HA.02 gas turbine paired with an H78 generator, an STF-D650 steam turbine, and a triple-pressure Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG). ENKA managed all engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities internally, completing the project with around 8 million labor hours over a 36-month period. The Kırklareli facility is projected to rank among Türkiye’s most efficient gas-fired power plants, achieving a net efficiency exceeding 63% in combined-cycle operation.

“As Türkiye prepares to host COP31, the Kırklareli plant exemplifies how advanced, high-efficiency technologies can bolster energy security and grid stability,” said Joseph Anis, President & CEO of GE Vernova’s Gas Power business in Europe, Middle East & Africa. “The plant’s entry into service is a pivotal moment in our partnership with ENKA and the first deployment of GE Vernova’s HA technology in Türkiye. We are proud to support the country’s energy evolution with innovative solutions that drive economic growth, modernize infrastructure, and contribute to sustainable development.”

GE Vernova has been a key partner in Türkiye’s energy sector for more than 75 years. Today, the company supports approximately 33.5 gigawatts (GW) of installed capacity across gas, wind, hydro, and solar power, along with grid modernization efforts. Its local presence includes manufacturing and R&D operations at the Gebze Transformer Factory. With the addition of the Kırklareli plant, GE Vernova’s total installed gas power capacity in Türkiye now stands at around 13.5 GW.
