GE Vernova secures agreement to power 49 MW onshore wind project in Spain
- GE Vernova’s Wind division has inked a deal to supply eight onshore turbines to Forestalia
- The agreement centers on GE Vernova’s 6.1 MW-158m turbine model, known as a workhorse in the industry
- This initiative forms part of a 693 MW framework agreement established in December 2023
COPENHAGEN, DENMARK (April 8, 2025) – On April 8, 2025, GE Vernova’s Wind segment revealed a contract to supply Forestalia with eight 6.1 MW-158m turbines for a 49 MW wind farm in Aragón, Spain. This Q1 2025 agreement extends a framework deal from December 2023 targeting Aragón region developments.
Spain aims to achieve 62 GW of installed wind capacity by 2030, aligning with its broader objective to generate over 80% of electricity from renewables by 2030.
With 5.9 GW of wind capacity across Spain, including 1.5 GW in Aragón, GE Vernova maintains a significant operational footprint, supported by manufacturing facilities in Ponferrada and Castellon.
Gilan Sabatier, GE Vernova’s Chief Commercial Officer of onshore wind, international markets said, “We are pleased to continue executing on our framework agreement with Forestalia as they work to help meet Spain’s wind energy goals. Our workhorse turbines are well suited to wind conditions in Spain and across Europe, as customers continue to look to wind power to meet energy demand, bolster energy security, and support renewable energy goals.”
Forestalia specializes in developing wind, solar, biomass, and pellet production projects. The company operates a 2 GW portfolio with a focus on rural community engagement.
“Forestalia has a growing portfolio in operation and construction, which will exceed an installed capacity of 1.2 GW for direct management in the coming years”, says Carlos Reyero, Forestalia’s CEO.
Notable projects include collaborations with Repsol, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), Lightsource BP, and Bruc Management, totaling over 4 GW, most of which are already operational.
