ABB Schweiz AG has finalized the conveyance of a 25,500-square-meter property in Zurich’s Oerlikon district to the city government on March 27, 2025. The transferred parcel, encompassing construction zones D6 and portions of D7 adjacent to ABB’s corporate campus, was originally negotiated through a municipal development accord signed in 2021. This transaction enables the city to implement multi-functional infrastructure featuring affordable residences, commercial facilities, cultural amenities, and public green areas.

The transaction will generate a pre-tax operational profit of approximately CHF 120 million for ABB in Q1 2025, with net cash inflows of approximately CHF 90 million. This calculation incorporates a CHF 17 million zoning-related surcharge and CHF 22 million allocated for compensating affordable housing relocations as stipulated in the agreement.

Through this land transfer, ABB supports Zurich’s municipal planners in expanding affordable housing stock while advancing comprehensive neighborhood improvements in the “Neu Oerlikon” redevelopment zone. The agreement ensures long-term preservation of the former industrial site, now operating as “Hall 550” cultural venue, as a permanent municipal asset. ABB’s Cityport headquarters complex and the heritage-listed MFO-Park facility remain unaffected by the transaction.
