ABB has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Netcontrol, a developer of electrical grid automation systems for power utilities and critical infrastructure operators. The acquisition is anticipated to finalize during the first quarter of 2026, pending regulatory clearances and standard closing conditions. Details regarding financial arrangements have not been revealed.

With the rapid advancement of electrification and ongoing energy transition initiatives, power networks face challenges from increased demand, renewable energy integration, and climate-related stressors. According to projections from the International Energy Agency (IEA), electricity is projected to account for half of global energy consumption by mid-century. This necessitates intelligent, digitized grid infrastructure. ABB’s electrification solutions combined with Netcontrol’s cutting-edge grid automation technologies will support clients in modernizing electrical networks. Based in Helsinki, Netcontrol employs approximately 100 professionals. Established in 1991, the company is currently under ownership of Procuritas Partners, a Swedish private equity firm.
