ABB has received A ratings in both climate and water categories from environmental non-profit CDP’s 2025 assessment, securing a position on the prestigious A List for climate action and newly for water stewardship. This achievement places ABB among the top 1% of nearly 20,000 evaluated companies attaining dual A ratings.

Anke Hampel, ABB’s Group Head of Sustainability, stated: “Being featured on CDP’s A List for both climate and water demonstrates our commitment to sustainability leadership and transparent reporting. Earning an A rating for Water marks significant progress in managing water-related risks, strengthening governance frameworks, and enhancing supplier collaboration on water security matters.”

ABB’s water security rating progressed from B in 2023 to A- in 2024 and now achieves a full A rating in 2025. The company prioritizes water management in high-risk regions, conducting annual risk assessments across all 320 global facilities with particular focus on 91 water-stressed sites in 2024. By 2026, ABB mandates water stewardship self-assessments at all water-scarce locations, followed by targeted interventions to mitigate water stress. The organization actively promotes alignment with Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) standards, a globally recognized system promoting sustainable water use through watershed-level stakeholder collaboration addressing quality, usage, and governance.

Nelamangala facility becomes the first ABB location to attain AWS Standard Gold certification from the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS)

Located northwest of Bengaluru – a southern Indian metropolis experiencing critical groundwater depletion due to rapid urban expansion and over-extraction – ABB’s Nelamangala factory has implemented proactive measures to restore local water tables while maximizing water recycling. The site recycles approximately 85% of treated water, achieving groundwater recharge rates 1.25 times faster than consumption levels. Through comprehensive rainwater harvesting systems, the facility has minimized surface water runoff and contributed to a 30+ meter rise in regional groundwater levels over three years. The AWS Standard Gold certification awarded in December 2025 acknowledges the site’s advanced water management systems, localized innovations, and robust stakeholder partnerships across supply chains.
