ABB has finalized the sale of its 7,000-square-meter Zurich Oerlikon property to Pensimo, a Zurich-based real estate investment manager serving Swiss pension funds. The site, previously designated as strategic land reserve, is situated in a strategic central location at Max-Frisch-Platz.

This disposal facilitates Neu-Oerlikon district redevelopment under updated zoning regulations from Zurich’s 2022 urban planning revisions. The former industrial zone will transition into a mixed-use neighborhood integrating residential, commercial, cultural, and professional spaces. Pensimo’s development plans include constructing approximately 500 apartments featuring high-rise buildings and commercial areas over the coming years.

The transaction will result in ABB recording a pre-tax operational profit of approximately CHF 290 million during the first quarter of 2026. This strategic move aligns with the company’s asset optimization initiatives while maintaining strong ties to Zurich Oerlikon, where ABB’s global headquarters has operated since 1988 following the BBC-ASEA merger. The headquarters currently houses around 500 employees.
