ABB Robotics has formed a strategic partnership with LandingAI, a Silicon Valley-based innovator, to revolutionize vision AI by making it faster, more intuitive, and accessible to broader audiences. This unprecedented collaboration will embed LandingAI’s vision AI solutions, such as LandingLensTM, into ABB Robotics’ software ecosystem, advancing the company’s mission to develop truly autonomous and adaptable robots.
“This announcement marks the latest milestone in our decade-long commitment to AI innovation and commercialization,” said Sami Atiya, President of ABB Robotics & Discrete Automation. “By enhancing robotic adaptability and autonomy through this collaboration, we’re expanding robotic capabilities beyond traditional manufacturing. The growing demand for AI in robotics stems from the need for greater flexibility, accelerated deployment cycles, and addressing shortages in specialized programming skills. Our partnership with LandingAI will reduce installation time from weeks to hours, empowering businesses to automate more intelligently and efficiently.”
As part of this initiative, ABB Robotics Ventures – the strategic investment arm of ABB Robotics – has made a venture capital investment in LandingAI. This unit focuses on fostering innovation through strategic investments in emerging companies shaping the future of robotics and automation. Specific financial terms of the investment remain undisclosed.
LandingAI’s LandingLens platform enables rapid development of vision AI systems that identify and respond to objects, patterns, or defects without requiring complex programming or AI expertise.
This collaboration enables ABB Robotics to cut vision AI training and deployment time by up to 80%. Once implemented, system integrators and end users can independently retrain AI for new scenarios, significantly boosting adaptability. This advancement is vital for expanding robotic adoption beyond traditional manufacturing into fast-paced sectors like logistics, healthcare, and food & beverage. ABB is currently piloting LandingAI’s technology and integrating it into existing vision AI applications such as item-picking, sorting, depalletizing, and quality inspection.
“AI is evolving rapidly, creating opportunities while demanding continuous learning,” said Dan Maloney, Chief Executive Officer of LandingAI. “By combining LandingAI’s vision AI capabilities with ABB’s robotics and software, we’re making automation more accessible. This partnership simplifies deployment of intelligent robotic systems that deliver practical, scalable solutions for businesses.”
ABB Robotics is uniquely positioned as the only robotics company offering a fully integrated AI training tool within its software suite. This tool will complement ABB’s RobotStudio® simulation and programming platform, which features digital twin technology to streamline commissioning processes.
