WILMINGTON, North Carolina (March 10, 2026) – Global Nuclear Fuel (GNF), a GE Vernova-led partnership with Hitachi, Ltd. and an affiliate of GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy, announced that it has been awarded a contract by Entergy to continue supplying fuel for its Grand Gulf and River Bend nuclear power stations.

The new contract extends the existing agreement through 2035 and includes four reloads utilizing the advanced GNF4 fuel design.

“We have been supplying fuel to Grand Gulf and River Bend since 2008, and we are pleased to continue supporting Entergy with our latest and most advanced fuel technology, GNF4,” said Craig Ranson, Installed Base CEO of GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy and CEO of GNF. “We are confident that GNF4 will deliver both economic and operational benefits.”

Lead test assemblies of GNF4 are scheduled to be introduced at River Bend in 2027. Full reload deployments are planned for Grand Gulf in 2030 and River Bend in 2031.

Launched in October 2025, the 11×11 GNF4 next-generation fuel incorporates two key advanced technologies approved by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission: Ziron cladding, designed for enhanced corrosion resistance, and aluminosilicate-doped uranium dioxide pellets, which provide Accident Tolerant Fuel (ATF) advantages by improving overall reliability.

“Entergy is proud to maintain our long-term partnership with GE Vernova in fueling our boiling water reactors,” said Jack Davis, GM of Nuclear Fuels & Integrated Risk Services at Entergy. “We have been leaders in advancing ATF technologies, turning innovative concepts into practical solutions. The GNF4 design enables us to maintain power output while using less uranium and lower enrichment levels, resulting in cost savings for our customers.”

Fuel fabrication for both plants will be carried out at GNF’s facility in Wilmington, North Carolina.

In addition to fuel manufacturing, GNF offers a comprehensive range of services to nuclear power operators, including core and fuel cycle engineering, reload licensing, core management, predictive analytics, fuel reliability assessments, cyber-secure monitoring systems, fuel inspection services, and consulting on reactor operations and long-term fuel storage strategies.
