(February 3, 2026) – GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV) announced the launch of GridOS® for Distribution, a unified software platform designed to help utilities operate their distribution networks as a coordinated, intelligent system. The solution represents a major step forward in grid software, helping utilities address increasing energy demand, system disruptions, and the rapid growth of distributed energy resources (DERs).
Utilities today face growing challenges driven by fragmented systems, isolated data, and manual processes that are not suited to modern grid requirements. GridOS for Distribution addresses these issues by integrating real-time operations, DER management, network modeling, field execution, and visual analytics into a secure, interoperable, and AI-ready platform. This unified approach enables utilities to monitor, control, and optimize the grid as a single system.

Built on a federated grid data fabric and powered by advanced systems such as ADMS, DERMS, and grid planning analytics, GridOS for Distribution transforms how utilities plan, operate, and respond to both routine conditions and extreme events.

Alabama Power, serving approximately 1.5 million customers, is among the early adopters using GridOS for Distribution to improve grid orchestration and reliability.

Designed with real-world outage scenarios in mind, GridOS for Distribution is already deployed in live grid environments globally. It supports faster response times, better coordination, and quicker recovery from extreme events, improving key reliability indicators such as SAIDI, SAIFI, CAIDI, and CMI.
A scalable, future-ready platform
GridOS for Distribution is built on a modern, interoperable architecture that evolves alongside utility needs. It supports phased implementation based on maturity levels — from foundational capabilities under Distribution Essentials to advanced functions such as Disruption Management, Distribution Optimization, and DER Orchestration. These capabilities ultimately lead to Distribution Intelligence, embedding AI-driven insights and predictive analytics directly into operations.
The platform incorporates zero-trust cybersecurity by design, ensures compatibility with both internal and third-party systems, and offers a unified user interface optimized for both everyday operations and emergency situations. This reduces modernization risks while enabling long-term innovation.
GridOS for Distribution is also part of a broader ecosystem strategy, with GridOS for Transmission expected to launch later in the year. This solution will integrate real-time operations, planning tools, and analytics into a single platform for transmission utilities, helping them manage increasing complexity with greater confidence.
