BERLIN, GERMANY (Dec 05, 2024) – GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE: GEV) has announced a pivotal contract with 50Hertz Transmission GmbH, one of the four transmission system operators in Germany. This partnership aims to enhance the resilience and reliability of Germany’s electrical grid as the country accelerates its transition to renewable energy.

As part of this initiative, GE Vernova will deliver its state-of-the-art 300 Mvar FACTSFLEX GFM system, a Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) solution featuring Grid Forming Control. This advanced technology is critical for stabilizing the power grid amid the fluctuations caused by renewable energy sources like wind and solar. The system, equipped with software to dynamically adjust to voltage variations, ensures a reliable and adaptive energy infrastructure. The comprehensive solution includes transformers, circuit breakers, and advanced protection and control equipment for seamless integration.

The STATCOM units will be engineered and manufactured at GE Vernova’s facilities in Dresden (Germany) and Tampere (Finland), with critical components sourced from Stafford (UK) and Mönchengladbach (Germany). The deployment plan includes two units at the Siedenbrünzow substation in Mecklenburg Western-Pomerania and one at the Röhrsdorf substation in Saxony. 50Hertz, a key player in the Elia Group, manages the electricity transmission network in northern and eastern Germany, which encompasses over 77 substations and switching stations.
