CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (September 11, 2024) – GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE: GEV) today announced the launch of its cutting-edge 6 MVA, 2000-volt direct current inverter designed for large-scale solar power plants. The first pilot installation of this inverter is planned for a multi-megawatt solar park in North America. This effort underscores GE Vernova’s commitment to driving down solar energy costs and advancing the global shift toward decarbonization and renewable power.

Pioneering Solar Inverter Technology

GE Vernova has a history of trailblazing in solar inverter technology, having launched the first 1500 Vdc inverter in 2012. This breakthrough allowed solar farms to improve efficiency and reduce costs through better layout designs. Building on this legacy, the new 2000 Vdc inverter continues to drive down the levelized cost of energy (LCoE) for solar power projects. By boosting energy output by 30% within the same physical space, the inverter enhances both the scalability and cost-effectiveness of utility-scale solar installations.

Solar inverters are essential for photovoltaic (PV) systems, converting the direct current (DC) power generated by solar panels into alternating current (AC) that can be fed into the power grid. The 2000 Vdc FLEXINVERTER, also known as the FLEXINVERTER 2 kVdc, is the newest member of GE Vernova’s FLEXINVERTER product family.

Collaborating for a Sustainable Future

The FLEXINVERTER 2000 Vdc will have its first application in a multi-megawatt solar park, which is expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2025. GE Vernova is collaborating with Shoals Technologies Group™ and a PV module supplier to make this project a reality. GE Vernova will supply the inverters, while Shoals Technologies will provide the electrical balance of system (EBOS) solutions, and the PV module supplier will deliver the necessary solar panels.
