Containerized Data Center Efficiency Optimized with ABB Ability™ Energy Manager

ABB, in collaboration with Shinohara Electric of Japan, is working on advanced digital energy management solutions for containerized data centers, combining scalability, energy savings, and efficient lights-out management.

Founded in 1961, Shinohara Electric is a leading provider of electrical distribution equipment across Japan, ASEAN, and the United States. The company has increasingly contributed to electric vehicle charging, renewable energy, LED technologies, and data centers. Shinohara’s focus on enhancing digital resilience has led them to offer fully customized containerized data centers, providing a reliable and energy-efficient solution that is both cost-effective to construct and operate.

The demand for containerized data centers is on the rise as organizations seek to balance cloud usage with on-premise facilities for improved security and lower latency. Containerization allows businesses to install infrastructure tailored to their unique requirements, often with quicker deployment times and greater energy efficiency. While building a traditional data center can take two to three years, a containerized data center can be designed and installed within approximately ten months.

The installation process is straightforward. Shinohara Electric’s data center system connects with an ABB SCU 100 control unit, M4M network analyzer, and power meters. This solution enables remote, real-time monitoring of essential system parameters.

ABB Ability™ Energy Manager also enhances safety and reliability for IT equipment, improves asset allocation, and supports data centers in operating more intelligently and efficiently. The subscription model makes it easy for users to select the most suitable functionality based on their specific needs.
