  • ABB will present its advanced rail technologies that promote sustainable transportation during InnoTrans 2024, a leading international event in transportation technology.
  • As a key highlight, ABB Traction Division introduces the new Pro series traction battery, designed for hybrid and fully electric rail systems, further enhancing the company’s broad portfolio of traction battery solutions, which are already powering over 1,000 vehicles worldwide.

At InnoTrans 2024 (taking place September 24-27 in Berlin), ABB will display its comprehensive range of innovative rail industry solutions. With over a century of experience leading technology advancements in railway systems, ABB continues its mission to decarbonize rail transport through groundbreaking, sustainable innovations. Visitors can explore ABB’s energy-efficient solutions at Stand 320 in Hall 9.

The newly launched Pro series traction battery is specially developed for rigorous rail applications, offering unparalleled modularity, scalability, and top-tier performance. It also boasts high safety standards and exceptional energy density, all within a compact design. The battery ensures a long operational life with more than 20,000 cycles and features rapid charging, allowing an 80% recharge in just 10 minutes.

On Tuesday, September 24, between 3-4 pm CEST, ABB will host a session at the Speaker’s Corner, focusing on the role of traction batteries in promoting sustainable mobility. The company will highlight its contributions to powering energy-efficient hybrid and fully electric trains globally. In collaboration with TMR, ABB will also present a case study showcasing how its regenerative power solution has significantly enhanced the Mont-Blanc Express, achieving annual energy savings of 552 MWh while improving reliability and minimizing environmental impact.

Recently, ABB Traction successfully converted 44 train sets for Adelaide Metro to diesel-hybrid operations, reducing emissions and noise levels for nearly 16 million passengers annually. ABB’s traction batteries have been instrumental in numerous global projects, contributing to energy savings of up to 35%.
