ABB’s Smart Buildings Division has announced a new collaboration with the World Green Building Council’s (WorldGBC) European Regional Network (ERN) to accelerate the adoption of sustainable, energy-efficient building practices across Europe. As part of this initiative, ABB will leverage its expertise in electrification and automation technologies to drive progress in low-carbon buildings that align with Europe’s sustainability goals.
Building a Greener Future Together
By joining WorldGBC’s European Regional Network as a Regional Knowledge Partner, ABB will work with industry leaders and experts to deliver innovative customer solutions. The collaboration will facilitate valuable insights and feedback, helping ABB align its efforts with critical sustainability frameworks like the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). This will also support a unified approach to shaping building policies across Europe.
WorldGBC is committed to driving systemic change in the built environment by working with governments, businesses, and organizations worldwide. Its European Regional Network, consisting of over 20 Green Building Councils and nearly 5,000 members, serves as a catalyst for change. Recent initiatives include the #BuildingLife project, which aims to develop an EU roadmap for addressing Whole Life Carbon (WLC) in buildings, and 12 National Decarbonisation Roadmaps to tackle country-specific needs.
Tackling Climate Impact through Collaboration
“With buildings responsible for around 30% of final energy consumption and 26% of global GHG emissions, the potential for impact is immense,” said Mike Mustapha, President of ABB Electrification’s Smart Buildings Division. “Our partnership with the World Green Building Council’s European network will enable us to share expertise and work alongside like-minded organizations to create a sustainable, low-carbon future. Together, we can foster smarter, more energy-efficient buildings that help create resilient, inclusive communities across Europe.”
Laura Pallares, Head of the ERN at WorldGBC, commented, “We are thrilled to welcome ABB as a regional member. Achieving net-zero emissions depends on collaboration with organizations that share our vision. Our shared commitment to electrifying the built environment offers endless opportunities for progress.”
ABB’s Commitment to Innovation and Sustainability
In line with its sustainability goals, ABB is focused on addressing emerging trends like the electrification of urban environments. ABB’s advanced automation and energy management technologies are designed to optimize energy use, integrate renewable energy sources, and enhance building intelligence. This enables customers to effectively meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving energy landscape while providing a more personalized, efficient living and working experience.
This collaboration represents another step in ABB’s journey to provide sustainable solutions that support customers’ needs while advancing the development of a sustainable built environment across Europe.
