Smart and Accurate Chlorine Control with ChloroStar™ Sensors and Accessories

ABB has unveiled the ChloroStar™ series, a cutting-edge line of sensors, transmitters, and accessories designed to deliver precise and reliable chlorine measurement. This innovation helps industries like water treatment and wastewater management achieve enhanced chlorine control, ensuring improved processing and reduced downtime.

Tackling Chlorination Challenges with Precision

Chlorination plays a critical role in eliminating harmful pathogens in water and wastewater. To meet stringent regulatory standards, industries require dependable measurement solutions. Traditional chlorine sensors often demand frequent maintenance due to issues like fouling and drift, which compromise performance. ChloroStar™ addresses these limitations with features that streamline operation and maintenance, ensuring consistent performance in challenging environments.

Key Benefits of ChloroStar™

The ChloroStar™ family offers:

  • Self-cleaning sensors to minimize fouling.
  • Modular design for flexible installation.
  • Predictive maintenance tools to reduce downtime.
  • Enhanced diagnostics for quick troubleshooting.

According to Nikodem Siwek, Global Product Manager for ABB Measurement & Analytics, “Accurate chlorination is vital for safe water treatment. ChloroStar™ ensures maximum availability and reliability of chlorine measurement devices while minimizing maintenance requirements.”

Components of the ChloroStar™ Family

This intelligent tri-electrode sensor measures Free or Total chlorine. Key features include:

  • Built-in diagnostics for reduced drift and improved accuracy.
  • pH compensation and EZLink™ technology for seamless connectivity.
  • Membrane-covered design that reduces cleaning needs.

Optimized for ABB’s InFlow Multi-Cell system, the sensor ensures stable chlorine measurement regardless of sample flow variations. Its low sample requirement of 1 L/hr (0.26 gal/hr) makes it ideal for potable water applications.

ChloroStar™ Cell:

This direct-contact electrode sensor is engineered for disinfectants like chlorine and chlorine dioxide. Highlights include:

  • Self-cleaning technology that uses sample flow to prevent clogging.
  • An open-cell design that enhances sensitivity and ensures reliable long-term performance, even in high-fouling scenarios.

Compared to conventional solutions, the ChloroStar™ Cell reduces operational costs by lowering consumable usage by 20%.

Integration with ABB’s Water Quality Portfolio

ChloroStar™ seamlessly integrates with ABB’s AWT420 dual-channel transmitter, which supports both analog and smart digital EZLink™ sensors. Users can:

  • Monitor multiple parameters with a single device.
  • Access features like Dynamic QR assistance, Dual-sensor validation, and auto pH correction for optimal disinfection control.

The EZLink™ Connect App provides Bluetooth-enabled access to sensor data, allowing users to monitor performance, share measurements, and manage maintenance tasks conveniently.
