ABB and VoltaGrid expand partnership for data center power solutions

ABB has secured significant new orders from VoltaGrid – a Texas-based microgrid energy provider – to support global data center projects powering artificial intelligence (AI) expansion. The agreement, finalized on March 25, 2026 in Houston at the CERAWeek energy summit, builds on the companies’ established partnership1 to deliver dependable, stable and rapidly deployable power systems for large-scale AI operations. Deliveries will commence in Q2 2026. Specific financial terms remain confidential.

ABB’s scope includes 35 synchronous condensers equipped with flywheel technology and accompanying prefabricated eHouse enclosures. These components serve as vital stabilization elements within VoltaGrid’s on-site power networks, ensuring the voltage consistency demanded by cutting-edge AI processors.

ABB’s synchronous condensers represent a market-leading grid stabilization solution, functioning as electrical shock absorbers to maintain power quality. Their capability to deliver immediate inertia, manage short-circuit incidents and regulate network voltage through reactive power control ensures uninterrupted operation of high-density data center environments. The project also encompasses high-reliability medium- and low-voltage distribution systems and excitation equipment to optimize system performance and availability.

Global data centers consumed approximately 1.5 percent of the world’s electricity in 2024, with the United States accounting for roughly 45 percent of this consumption2.
