ABB has received an order from Çolakoğlu Metalurji A.Ş. to equip their 370-tonne capacity EAF—the largest of its kind in Türkiye—with the advanced ArcSave® electromagnetic stirrer (EMS). This partnership aims to enhance efficiency, safety, and sustainability in steelmaking at Çolakoğlu’s state-of-the-art facilities.
The revamped furnace will use ABB’s stirring technology to produce a wide range of carbon steel products, including slabs, hot-rolled steel coils, billets, and reinforcing bars. This upgrade aligns with Çolakoğlu’s mission to innovate and meet the evolving demands of modern steel production.
Since its establishment in 1945, Çolakoğlu Metalurji has grown from a modest operation to a leading steel producer in Türkiye. Key milestones include the commissioning of its first rolling mill in 1969, its melt shop in 1985, and its first EAF in 2007, which marked a pivotal move towards sustainable production. Today, the company operates one of the region’s largest and most advanced steelmaking plants, dedicated to high-quality, efficient, and sustainable production.
The decision to invest in ABB’s ArcSave EMS underscores Çolakoğlu’s commitment to sustainability. This technology will accelerate chemical and thermal homogenization in the furnace, supporting the company’s efforts to achieve its environmental goals.

“Our partnership with Çolakoğlu demonstrates ABB’s ability to address customer needs with tailored solutions,” said Zaeim Mehraban, Global Head of Sales, ABB Metallurgy. “Integrating ArcSave into such a significant furnace operation reflects our dedication to advancing sustainability and efficiency in the steel industry.”
The ArcSave system at Çolakoğlu is expected to be fully operational by Q4 2025.
